majilina is a deaf mural artist and visual designer originally from the mountains of South Tyrol, Italy and currently based in Quintana Roo, Mexico. Her work explores the connection between nature, culture and visual communication, using murals and paintings to create symbolic stories that connect people, language and the natural world.
Her murals and paintings often feature animals, plants and flowers, each carrying symbolic meaning. These natural elements express themes such as connection, respect, protection and community. By integrating hand shapes from different sign languages into her compositions, majilina creates visual stories that reflect identity, communication and the relationship between humans and the natural world.
During her artistic travels, she is inspired by the culture, history and atmosphere of each place. The animals, plants and symbols she chooses often reflect the identity of the location or her personal connection to it. Her colours are guided by the impressions and emotions she experiences while exploring a new mural environment.
majilina has collaborated on international mural projects across different culture contexts. Her work includes two mural projects in China, a mural at the Hawaii School for the Deaf and the Blind in Hawaii and projects in Mexico. Through these experiences, she continues to explore how nature, culture and sign language can connect communities and inspire dialogue through visual storytelling.
As one of the only know female deaf artists in mural art her paintings are a true inspiration for all of us and especially for other deaf people to have the courage for big life time goals and to communicate by expressing oneself artistically.
